Description

********Item being relisted.  I had an offer but apparently there was a misunderstanding regarding "best offer" ebay items.  An ebay "best offer" is a commitment similar to a bid, with the specified purchase terms unless a buyer has requested alternative terms which I may choose to accept or not.  This is a Paypal only item, to be paid before shipping. The item condition is as stated, with free shipping (super well packed) to the US and nations listed.  Returns and refunds only allowed if it is determined that the item varies significantly from my description (I think everyone would find it's better than described).   Thanks  *****************   This is a really great horn made by A. Cronlein.  Cronlein was a master-builder from Alexander who left the company for a few years during the 1930's, making horns out of Klingenthal.  His horns appear to be direct Alexander copies, they are indeed comparable to pre-war Alexanders in both appearance and playability.  I believe most of his instruments were marketed by Hess Musik, this horn is marked as such.  My understanding is that Hess went out of business in 1938 which helps to date this horn.  It's a full double in an Alexander wrap with double stopping valve.  Very good condition overall given the vintage, some minor denting and it could use a good polish.  The valves seem pretty nice, in my judgment it is not up for a valve job.  All valves and slides are free, I find it to be a fine player with a very beautiful sound.  Made of unlacquered rose brass with german silver trim. I love this horn, I am only selling because I have carpal-tunnel issues which are aggravated by the weight of the double stopping valve and the use of that lever, consequently it's been sitting around unused.   With the exception of the stopping-valve it is identical to another Cronlein horn that I use as my regular player. Comes with a like new pro-tec cut bell horn case.  No mouthpiece, use your own.   I'm not desperate to sell and I'm not destitute.  I'll accept a reasonable offer but absurd offers will receive a due response. Offer what you think it's worth, you may be surprised how much I'll come down.   If it doesn't sell I'll probably see what can be done about fitting it with a grip support so that I can play it in spite of my carpal-tunnel. Also for sale locally, I may choose to end the listing at any time.   It's a fine horn with a nicely centered sound, the notes slot really well, compared to other pre-war horns it's surprisingly well in tune.  Don't buy it if you want a run-of-the-mill 8D sound, if you want a beautiful and distinctive sound with a real core (no fluffiness) this may be the horn for you.  I regard Cronlein instruments as superior in every way to pre-war Alexanders (sorry 'bout that Alex).  In fact I sold my modern solid nickel-silver Alex in favor of a Cronlein.  At one point I owned 5 Cronlein instruments, more than I needed--hence this listing. In response to a question, the bell collar is smaller than that of a  modern Alex horn, current Alex bells won't interchange on this.   Payment by Paypal to be received within 10 days of auction end.  Free shipping to any location worldwide--be aware this will have to go in at least 2, probably 3 boxes (one for bell, one for body, and one for the case).
