I purchased this Neat Hand Painted piece the other day not knowing what it was. I did some research on the net and found really Neat Site on Rumba Boxes from Jamaica with different similiar versions of this. The site says that this is a Souvenir from Jamaica called a RUMBA BOX. They are Hand Painted with CALYPSO & MENTO MUSIC THEMES. They usually like this one have things like CALYPOS JOE, DAYO DAYO, BANANA DAY Hand Painted on them. They say Jamaica on their sides. The site says that the time period was from the 1950s to the 60s and 70s, although some of the music still goes on today. The leather strap on the end has broken in the middle, and the unit shows some age wear & minor age related imperfections, but displays great. The 4 Metal units seem to be specially tuned. What a Neat Folk Collectible these are. The inside of the box has a number, E 70413, probably a design number??? Buyer pays $20 shipping in the continental USA+ ins for Fedex Shipping, actual costs elsewhere. Thanks for looking.
