Description

This small bore tenor trombone was made by the Elkhart Band Instrument Company and I was not able to find out the date of manufacture.  What history I could find was that any Elkhart horn that didn't say built by Buescher, would have been prior to the 1928 acquisition of Elkhart by Buescher.  This horn just does not look that old (#30716) but maybe the good condition is fooling me.  It is very solidly constructed, with meticulous soldering and fit throughout the horn.  It has a 7" bell, angled body braces, and I would think the bore is .480" or less.  The tuning slide moves very smoothly, and the handslide is amazingly free.  At the stockings there is some plating wear but not much.  The joint lock is not threaded and has a wing screw tightener, which of course dates the horn also.  The slide lock and water key are fine.  There are just a few very minor dents at the tuning slide crook and farther up the bell section.  There is no mouthpiece or case.  It does take a standard tenor mouthpiece.
