Miller Brothers 101-Ranch Wild West Shows. Featured on the cover is a fantastic photo of Geronimo (In full chieftain headdress) plus three individual pictures of the Miller Brothers. Behind this cover and the show is a fantastic story. However, let us explain what this piece is. Many collectors of sheet music do not want the music but instead, want the cover—usually for framing. Since sheet music is frequently worn and torn, we digitize the cover, correct the flaws and tears, enlarge it and then print it out in the new format. For many people, this is the only way the can own a particular item. Now, here’s the story. The Miller Bothers 101-Ranch Wild West Show was located on the ranch by the same name. It was located near Ponca City, Oklahoma. A colorful former Confederate soldier, Colonel Joe Miller, started the ranch in 1893. His wife Molly, sons Joe, Zack and George Jr. (pictured on the cover up for sale) along with daughter, Alma helped establish what became known as the "Largest Diversified Farm and Ranch in America". The ranch covered nearly a hundred thousand acres of land, some leased from nearby Native-American tribes. One of the ways the Millers made money was to stage rodeos that slowly became more and more showmanship and eventually a traveling Wild West Show that at its height traveled in more than 100 trains cars. Among the people who were featured in the shows and rodeo included Geronimo, Pawnee Bill (after he had his own show), Tom Mix, Tex Ritter and Pecos Bill among dozens of others. One of the stars and ranch hands was an African-American cowboy named Bill Pickett, who invented the rodeo sport of bulldogging and was elected to The Cowboy Hall of Fame. {Pickett starred in the movie Crimson Skull, which was filmed on the ranch. A poster for that movie is available in our Movies category. Search under “Crimson Skullâ€} However, this traveling show may have cast their longest shadow when they went to California and helped to create the romanticized “Old West Legend†by appearing in some of the earliest Westerns. This is an incredible piece. Here are some details. The original songbook publisher was Will Rossiter, Chicago, Illinois. The cover art is signed Starmer, though many believe that signature was used by both of two brothers who were commercial illustrators. It features a Native American buffalo hunt. This piece will be a valuable addition to any collection of sheet music, old west or show business memorabilia. This print is on a high-quality 100# glossy text paper. The poster measures 10.5†(w) x 14†(h). It has a small border to allow for framing. This is perfect for a standard 16†x 20†frame, a manageable size for a variety of decorating purposes. The kid asked him, "Mr. Cowboy, why do you wear that big hat?" The cowboy replied, "Well, son, the big hat protects me from hot sun and driving rain, and at night I put it over my face when I sleep on the range, so it protects me then, too." "Why do you wear that leather vest?" "It also helps to keep the weather off me, and it has pockets where I can keep my valuables." "Well, why do you wear leather chaps?" "They protect my legs when I'm driving my horse through mesquite and cactus." "Well, Mr. Cowboy," the kid finally asked, "Why do you wear sneakers?" "That's so somebody won't think I'm a darn truck driver." 583 Powered by eBay Turbo Lister Powered by eBay Turbo Lister Powered by eBay Turbo Lister The free listing tool.
