eBay master This beautiful Sterling SFL-300BU-S blue open-hole flute is one of a kind! Featuring a stand-out blue body with silver open-hole keys, this flute is modelled on the Yamaha YFL-574 – the benchmark for open hole flutes. This instrument is, of course, brand new. This is an open-hole designed flute that plays in the key of C. It is equipped with offset-G keys and split-E mechanism. It is highly responsive and plays with a solid tone, accurate intonation and produces a crisp, clear sound. Open hole flutes are aimed at the intermediate to advanced player and are the normal choice for concert-level players. An open hole flute has some keys that have a hole through the middle which the player must cover with their fingertips in order to facilitate alternate fingerings, "extended techniques" (e.g. quarter-tones, glissando) and multiphonics. There is some belief that open hole keys permit louder and clearer sound projection in the flute's lower range. Open-hole keys are also needed for some modern "extended" avant garde pieces, including those requiring the player to play harmonic overtones, or to manipulate "breathy" sounds in addition to the traditional "pure" tone. Also included are silicone plugs to convert the flute back to a closed hole model. These plugs enable the player to become used to playing an open hole flute by working in stages and changing it as necessary. The Sterling brand is far superior to most flutes found on eBay, equivalent to the Jupiter brand, but, at around half the price.
