Here is a seriously old Conn Eb tuba. The serial number 25466 dates it to about 1893. It's about 30 inches tall and the bell flares out to about 15 1/2 inches. The bell inscription says: Made By C.G. Conn, Elkhart, Ind and Worchester Mass. There is some very nice engraving with leaves surrounding the inscription. It's in pretty good condition for being over 100 years old. The leadpipe brace was replaced and there's a lot of extra solder there. The leadpipe looks good with one good sized dent and a couple of small dings. The valves work very well and the pistons are in good condition. The valves are still fairly tight. All the slides pull easily except the upper 1st valve slide. The slide crooks are in good condition, only some small dings. It has a leaf spring waterkey. The branches are in remarkable condition for their age, some dents but nothing severe. The bell stem is good. The bell flare is wrinkled and has some splits. There are 3 good sized splits around the edge and a couple of smaller ones at the apex of wrinkles. The silver plating on these old Conns was not very durable and a lot of it has worn off. The brass underneath is in good condition and not pitted. This is in "as found" condition so it needs a good cleaning up but doesn't need any serious work other than straightening and patching the bell flare. It plays very well with a nice warm round sound. It takes a small shank Eb mouthpiece, a modern tuba mouthpiece won't really fit. A great old tuba!Winning bidder to pay with PayPal or Postal money order. PayPal only outside the US.
