Here comes a rare find: vintage F. Besson brevete star flugelhorns are among the most sought after vintage brass instruments worldwide. The few horns I've seen offered on ebay in the last couple of years were mostly in worn and unplayable condition. This horn is in beautiful original condition and an amazingly playing horn. Smooth valves, free slides and caps, very clean condition and great original silverplating. I can't find any corrosion or red hot, ther are no significant dents, just a few very small scratches from normal use - so this horn hasn't been played too much, it probably slept in its case most of its long lifetime.... The serial number 93887 is believed to be one of the last prewar horns or one of the very first horns of the 1945 Paris F. Besson production line (even french flugel experts are not able to determine the exact manufacture year without any doubt). On the bell it says: SYSTEME PROTOTYPE / F. BESSON / BREVETé / S G D G / 96.RUE D'ANGOULEME / PARIS / * / 66 HAUTES RECOMPENSES / 6 GRANDS PRIX / HORS CONCOURS / MEMBRE DU JURY / 93887. The music shop who originally sold this horn in Switzerland was " HUG & Cie BALE" who inscribed his name on the bell too. On the valve casing, it says 9 - 8 - 7 and F.BESSON / STAR / Bté S.G.D.G. and the serial number 93887. Both the top and bottom valve caps have 7 - 8 - 9 imprinted. The valve bore is typically small: 0.410 of an inch, the bell diameter is 152 mm = 6 inches ............ This horn is a truly beautifully playing vintage flugelhorn , the top of the line of the most successful brand in France's last century's brass instrument manufacture industry. The F. BESSON brevete line of brass instruments started a century ago and influenced the entire american brass instrument production: The most famous american trumpet makers such as Vincent Bach, Elden Benge and Renold Schilke started their production line trying to copy the F.BESSON horn, which was believed to be superior to all the other brands. ............ This flugelhorn comes with an old no name french flugel mouthpiece with a french taper, quite worn, and a french wooden case in decent condition. ......... I'm offering this rare find from Switzerland to worldwide, airmail shipping to the States is $67. I'm an experienced seller of mostly vintage french brass instruments with a large feedback record of only happy customers. There is no reserve and the starting price is $1. The highest bidder will will not be disappointed with this outstanding horn - players and collectors alike: take your chance to own one of the most fabulous and most highly sought after horns ever - so have fun bidding!
